Trail Days 2009 - How you can become 'Hands On' at Libby Hill!

Come help out Libby Hill Trails by pitching in to do some trail work.  We have big plans this year and can use lots of help.  We are only asking for 2 to 4 hours of assistance on one of our two work dates.

When:

Day 2:  Saturday November 14th - 8:30am to 12:30pm   Forecast is calling for rain after noon so we are good to go, all volunteers, please arrive as planned (by 8:20).

What We Will Be Doing

Thinning trees on ski trails - We will be cutting lots of small to medium trees that have grown into the ski trails making grooming difficult in winter.  We can use up to a dozen volunteers to clear cut trees, remove loose rocks, use lopers to trim overhanging branches, and drag brush well off trails.  Bring gloves, lopers, and or a bamboo rake.

Creating 2 new trails - We are creating a new entrance trail from the parking lot.  This will involve clearing brush, trimming roots, and painting new trail blazes.  Here is your chance to be a true trail blazer!  Bring lopers and gloves.  We will need 12 more volunteers to clear nearly 1/3 mile of new trails.  Start thinking of names!

Reblazing a property line - we have a 1600 line that needs to have survey marks repainted and brush trimmed down the survey line.  This will require 4 volunteers to use lopers to trim branches and a pruning saw for larger trees.

Thinning branches on Harold Libbey and Outback Trails - this will require 8 volunteers to walk the trails to trim back any problem trees growing into the trails.

Removing trash near parking lot - this will require 2 people to do a quick pick up of any trash found around the parking lot and kiosk.

Where to Meet - meet at the parking lot on Libby Hill Road by 8:20 AM.  If you arrive later call 370-9155 to find out were to report for work.

Contact Us Ahead of time or just show up - If you know you can definitely attend please email us or call 370-9155 to confirm so we can coordinate work crews.  If you can't commit just show up and we will put you to use!

Rain Dates - We will cancel if steady rain is predicted and use the following day as our rain date.  We will post cancellations on our home page www.libbyhill.org by 9pm the night before the event.

Things you could bring - gloves, lopers, pruning saw, cell phone, and perhaps a steel rake or shovel.
