Two snowstorms in the past week have allowed the groomers to set a base with fair to good skiing this week. This is a great start to a promising winter sports season! A few things to keep in mind for winter trail use:
Skiers only on groomed trails – foot holes and even snowshoe treads can harden and degrade the ski trails very quickly. Non skiers please use the narrow trails (Lynx, Winter, Harold Libbey, Old Libby Hill Road, and Outback trails. A short section of the Moose Odyssey is shared with the Lynx trail. This section is okay to walk or snowshoe provided you stay to the far side of the trail then exit off on the Lynx trail. The Ghost trail is closed beyond Old Libby Hill Road.
Dogs must be leashed – last winter we had skiers knocked down by dogs that were not under the control of their owners. Trail stewards reported so far this season that 4 of 5 dog owners were not leashing their dogs. Volunteers will be approaching owners without leashed dogs and photographing violators. Please allow us to keep the trails open for dogs by leashing your pet.
