Brown Tail Moth Season at Libby Hill

Brown tail moths are present at Libby Hill and have been for several years. We have not seen heavy deforestation like Yarmouth or other coastal areas, but the caterpillars are present. They have been observed primarily on the Holmquist Hollow and the section of Moose Odyssey next to that trail. These trails have heavy groves of oak trees which are one of the favorite foods of the moth. There are also oak trees on the Outback and connecting RRCT trails. The webs and hairs of these moths can cause severe rashes so take preventative measures to minimize your exposure to them between mid-May and early July.

Class III E-Bikes are not allowed on any trails at Libby Hill or Thayer Brook Preserve.
