Despite the arctic blast this week, the ice at the pond by the Middle School melted a few days ago. Because it is one of the first open water ponds it gets many ducks visiting while they wait for ice to melt in bigger lakes. If you use the Turkey Trot trail you will get many views down onto the pond. Last Sunday there where 75 Canadian geese, 4 Hooded Mergansers, 50 mallards, 2 Ring-necked ducks, and a majestic wood duck scoping out the wood duck house on the edge of the woods. Please keep dogs leashed when in this area to avoid flushing the birds. During the migration over the next 2 months many unusual visitors will stop by the pond. Check it out on your next exploration of Libby Hill!
